Boys Basketball

Huge congratulations to the 2nd year boys basketball team on winning the South East Semi-Final today against Grennan College in the Mercy Secondary School in Waterford. Final score 31-24. The CBS boys started the first quarter strong with a 6 point lead before Grennan found their way onto the scoreboard with that quarter ending with CBS ahead by 2 points. This game saw both sides barely separated right the way through the first three quarters. At half time, Grennan were in the lead by 3 points despite a great team effort from those playing in the second quarter, 13-10. The third quarter saw some great basketball from both sides with Cormac Crotty dropping all the scores for the CBS but still we trailed behind at the end of the quarter by a basket, 20-18. A change of tactics in the last quarter and great composure by the boys saw their efforts rewarded and the baskets started to build. Our super supporters drove the boys on with every basket they made. With three players on four fouls in the final quarter, the boys dug deep and disciplined and this kept made attacking and scoring difficult for Grennan. Baskets from Alex, Emmanuel and Cormac sealed the win for CBS New Ross in what can only be described as a nail biting match. Huge thanks to all the student, parents and teachers that travelled and showed their support today. It was so appreciated and really helped energise the boys in the last quarter. Thanks to senior students Daniel, Conn and Finn for their coaching assistance. Both Ms. Tighe and Ms. Mc Carthy couldn’t be prouder today and thank you too all the teachers and students who welcomed the boys home. The competition for the boys continues with a Leinster semi-final on the horizon in the coming weeks. More photos to follow.
