Transition Year ( TY )
Transition Year (TY) is a vital and enriching one-year stand-alone programme that marks the first year of a three-year senior cycle. It serves as a critical bridge between the structured learning of the Junior Cycle and the more exam-focused Senior Cycle, offering students a unique opportunity for personal, academic and career development.
Subjects and Modules
There are a wide range of subjects and modules offered in Transition Year, providing students with a rich and varied learning experience. Certification
Once a week, students will complete accredited online courses across a wide variety of topics, including GDPR, office ergonomics, manual handling, cardiac response and customer care. Throughout the year, each student will complete at least 19 courses. At the end of the year, students receive official certificates for each course completed, providing them with recognised qualifications that will stand out on their CVs and support future career paths.

Work Experience
Work experience and community placements are key aspects of our Transition Year programme, offering students valuable insights into both professional careers and community service. Students take responsibility for securing their own work experience placements, fostering independence and initiative as they actively engage with potential employers. This allows them to explore multiple career paths and gain first-hand experience in different industries, helping them make more informed decisions about their future.

E-Portfolio
Each student in Transition Year will create an E-Portfolio, which will be shared with parents/guardians throughout the year. This portfolio provides a chronological record of the students experiences and educational progress. It includes critical reflections on key learnings and achievements, focusing on overall development across four core dimensions:
- Personal Growth 2. Being a Learner
- Civic and Community Engagement 4. Career Exploration
This comprehensive tool helps track and celebrate each student’s journey, highlighting their growth in these key areas.

TY Trip and Activities
Throughout the year, TY students also participate in various day and overnight trips, including visits to museums, historical sites and cultural centres. They attend workshops and presentations by guest speakers who cover a wide range of topics, such as mental health, career development and entrepreneurship. These activities are carefully designed to enhance their personal and academic development, giving them a broader perspective on the world around them.
